US Navy Patrol Plane Struck Suo

1945年4月22日清晨，一架美國海軍第104巡邏轟炸中隊（VPB-104）的PB4Y-1巡邏機，掛載了2枚500磅炸彈、4枚250磅炸彈、5枚100磅炸彈，從呂宋島上的克拉克機場（Clark Field）起飛，執行八重山諸島及台灣一帶的武裝偵巡任務。這架飛機在西表島上空以機槍掃射了10艘單桅船，但戰果不詳。之後這架PB4Y-1飛到台灣的蘇澳上空，發現南方澳港內有12艘美軍稱為Sugar Dog的機帆船和若干單桅船。下圖即是這次任務中拍攝的港灣照片：
A PB4Y-1 patrol plane of US Navy VPB-104, loaded with 2 500-lb, 4 250-lb, and 5 100-lb bombs, took off from Clark Field, Luzon, on the morning of April 22, 1945, for an offensive search and reconnaissance mission around Yaeyama Shoto and Formosa. The plane first strafed 10 luggers on Iriomote Island with unknown results. Then, further on patrol, the pilot sighted 12 Sugar Dogs (the designation assigned to Japanese small craft between 150 and 300 gross tons with aft deckhouse and engine) and dozens of luggers in the harbor of Suo (currently Suao), Formosa. The first photo below is an high-altitude view of the area taken during this mission.

這架飛機隨後以機槍與炸彈攻擊港內的船隻，一共投下了2枚500磅炸彈、2枚250磅炸彈和4枚100磅炸彈，其中一枚500磅炸彈重創了兩艘Sugar Dog（本文最上方的照片，點擊可放大），另外也有數艘Sugar Dog和單桅船被其他的炸彈坡及而受損。
The plane bombed and strafed the harbor, dropping 2 500-lb, 2 250-lb, and 4 100-lb bombs. One 500 pounder severely damaged two Sugar Dogs (the spectacular explosion in the top photo; click to enlarge). Several other Sugar Dogs and luggers were slightly damaged by other bombs.
