攻擊桃子園！ Battle of Formosa: Toshien

上面與下面這兩張照片，是從美國海軍第38特遣艦隊航空母艦勇往號（USS Enterprise）起飛的飛機在1944年10月12日攻擊高雄桃子園軍港（今左營海軍基地）時所攝。
The above photo and the one below were both taken by the aircraft from USS Enterprise of Task Force 38 when they attacked Toshien (currently Zuoying) Naval Base on October 12, 1944.

接下來的4張照片都是黃蜂號(USS Wasp）航艦的飛機所攝。下圖是基地內的飛機跑道及跑道以東至半屏山之間的營舍被美軍飛機低空轟炸的景象，照片右上角的輪船跟本文第二張照片左上角的輪船是同一艘，但在這張照片裡已經冒出一些白煙。
The following four photos were all taken by the aircraft from USS Wasp. The photo below shows that the airstrip in the base and buildings east of the airstrip were bombed. Note the freighter in the upper-right corner of the picture. It is the same one in the upper-left corner of the second photo in this post but can be seen smoking in this photo.

在下面這張照片中，前面提到的輪船冒出了大量的濃煙。
In the next photo, the freighter previously mentioned was smoking heavily.

以下照片可見跑道的北端，冒煙的輪船仍是同一艘。
The photo below shows the north end of the runway and the same freighter we saw previously.

儘管美軍的攻勢猛烈，下面這張在4天後由轟炸台灣的B-29轟炸機拍攝的跑道南端照片卻看不出來有嚴重的損壞。
Four days later, a B-29 bombing Formosa took the following photo, which showed little damage had been done to the airstrip.

在下面的照片中，可以辨識的損壞似乎只有最下面一排營舍中間那棟的屋頂破損。
The only visible damage in the photo below is the broken roof of the second building in the bottom row.
