Detour when artillery testing is undergoing
I am now in the process of transitioning to a new job. Because I have not found the right “tempo”, I have not blogged for quite a while. Sorry.
Last weekend I went to Ilan for a two-day trip. The above photo was taken outside an artillery testing facility, which was right next to the hotel we stayed. While looking for the hotel on Google Maps before the trip, I found this facility had a helicopter pad. So I had hoped to see some helicopters. Unfortunately there were no activities when we were there.
The helicopter pad was barely visible from the top of the hotel.
No activities at the facility.
You can take a look at the facility on Google Maps (you can see the hotel’s swimming pool too). The rooms were just ok but the hotel has a private beach, which is quite nice.
The weather was not ideal. We could not see the Guei Shan (Turtle Mountain) Island very well.
A breaking in the clouds.
It was my first time to be so close to so many bees.
A formation flight.
Ilan is famous for its scallions. But these are not scallions but leeks.
Yummy, yummy! Taiwanese sausages sold at a winery.
We ate a lot of sausages during the two days.
Ilan’s Jiaosi Township is famous for its hot spring. This a public hot spring park.
Although many earthquakes occur in Ilan each year, this building has not been damaged by any earthquake.
Gong Si Fa Cai!
It was more than twenty years ago when I stayed over in Ilan last time before this trip. I found Ilan has changed a lot. If you want to see the more traditional side of Taiwan, come to Ilan and you will not be disappointed.
Congratulations on the new job!
I went to Ilan this past December as well. It was fun!
Used to go to Jiaosi several times a year when I was still in Taiwan. Parents love and believe in hot springs’ healing power, and still do. Since we lived in Taipei area, we been to most of the hot springs in the region. Jiaosi was the “quiet” one, nothing flashy, just good soaking and overnight stay, with friendly people and hotel hosts/hostesses that remembered guests well, and still remember sleeping on Japanese Ta-ta-mi, which is rare in Taiwan hotels/motels now-a-day, or even 20 years ago….
Taiwan is such a beautiful place. Its people though are its greatest asset and I had the fortune to meet taiwanese people recently. I have the best of opinions for Taiwan and its people. I long for the day when I’ll have enough money to visit the beautiful island.
