Chung Hsiang UAV on National Day Parade

Posted on October 10, 2007

The two Chung Hsiang UAVs in the above photo did not participate in the rehearsals (as far as I know); so I think they are a bit noteworthy.  The UAV is roughly the size of the Hunter UAV of the US Army.  When I saw the trucks this morning, at first I thought they were placed on the rail launchers.  But I was disappointed after taking a second look.

It was just a display stand, most likely built for the parade.

I guess the sensor “ball” is a local design.

The three antennas on top of the fuselage.  Anybody knows their functions?

Today’s weather was far from ideal; so I am not going to post any photo of the fly-by here.  But I took many photos of the various vehicles participating in the parade.  If you are interested in seeing them here, please let me know.

The long one might be UHF/VHF antenna, where there’s another one similar to it right behind the nose gear, under the UAV. The box might be a omni-directional Satcom, don’t know about the middle one……

Is it fitted with rocket assist takeoff?

The small one might be the GPS receiver. It does not have RATO.
