Ten Years Ago

Posted on September 1, 2007

No, I am not referring to the accident that killed Princess Diana.  It was when I left Madison, Wisconsin, the city where I had lived for seven years for my postgraduate study.  I heard the news about Princess Di at friends’ apartment because I had sold everything in my apartment, including the TV.  The next morning another friend drove me to the bus station, thus ending my seven-year stay in Madison.

I consider Madison my second home.  Actually, while I was still living there, I had thought that I would never leave the city!  I missed the place a lot after I had left.

In May 2001, I was back in Madison again.  I felt that I had never left the place because everything was so familiar to me, despite some new buildings.  That visit cured my “homesick”.  I still want to go back if I have a chance.  (In fact, I did so once in a while, in my dreams.)  But now I know I must move on.

Huh, Wei-Bin, better not show any pictures from years back that has any girl(s) in them. That will save you hours of explaining to your wife, assuming you’re not in the dog house already…..

Bryan, I am already an old dog chained to the house…

So try to shoot photos with dogs in them, even if it’s damn hot girl walking the dog. That way, you can proclaim you’re just aiming the camera at the dog, the hot gal is just extra bonus…..

Cats doesn’t work. Little kids or old senior citizens only work part of the time. Flowers or plants works half of the time. Cars, planes, or motorcycles, 75% of successful rate—only if the girls in the same frame aren’t mostly naked……

Nah … we old chained-down dogs are still allowed to look.

My wife doesn’t care if I glance at hot girls on the street. Just don’t drool all over the place. 😉

Now I bring my camera with me only when I attend open houses. So it’s hard for me to shoot hot girls because they don’t go to air bases. An exception is the Sungshan open house because it was held in Taipei. But it was too crowded to get a clean shot (either of the girls or of the airplanes).

Man, you and Mike seems need to have a boy’s night out evening. I guess just mentioning of us meeting in Hooters or Playboy club in Vegas means 1 month or longer doghouse cool off time for both of you……

Wei-Bin, you might be interest a the book and movie “Into the Wild”, which the DVD is expected to be released in early March. Part of the movie/book took place near Madison, Wisconsin, 1990-1992, early part of your 7 years sting in the same location…..

The book “Into The Wild” is by Jon Krakauer.
The movie by the same name is directed by Sean Penn
