Two Lesser Known Blackcats

Posted on June 14, 2009

The above document is rare in that the US government officials forgot to black out two personal names: Tom and Eddie, which refer to Tom Hwang (黃榮北) and Eddie Chou (鄒燕錦), respectively. These two pilots are also rare among all Blackcats: combined, they had flown a total of three missions.

Another “Oops!”: Eddie’s name was shown again.

Eddie’s first operational mission, C257C, took place on August 10, 1967. Although he received high marks on his first mission from the Director of OSA, General Bacalis, he did not flown again until sometime in 1968. (I am not sure of the exact date of his second mission.) Then he was dropped out of the 35th Squadron.

Tom Hwang’s first mission was also his last. He was shot down and killed by Chinese SAMs on September 8, 1967, when flying Mission C297C:
