First China Coast Mission by U-2

CIA’s Detachment C deployed to NAS Cubi Point in the Philippines and flew dozens of missions covering Indonesia in the first half of 1958. But in the wake of the shoot-down of Allen Lawrence Pope’s B-26 on May 18, 1958, CIA folded its operations in Indonesia and Detachment C started packing. On its return trip to NAS Atsugi in Japan on June 10, a U-2 flew an ELINT mission with System 5 along the China coast all the way up to Yellow Sea. This was first mission along China coast by the U-2. The following image shows the approximate mission track:
