以上三段影片都取自一部美國國家檔案局認為是1945年1月4日艾塞克斯號航艦（USS Essex, CV-9）飛機攻擊永康飛行場的紀錄片。在我仔細判讀後，確定這部影片裡出現了三座台灣的飛行場，只不過沒有一座是永康。為了方便說明，我把這部紀錄片剪出上面的三段，分別是二林（美軍稱為路上厝）、北斗（美軍稱為溪州）、麻豆等三座飛行場。當天負責轟炸的是第4魚雷機中隊的TBM-5C，第4戰鬥機中隊的F6F-5擔任護航。第三段影片可以看見TBM投下的100磅炸彈在麻豆飛行場上爆炸的畫面。
The three video segments are from the footage of “planes from USS Essex striking against Eiko Airstrip on Formosa 01/04/1945” (in the words of the National Archives of the United States). However, none of the airfields in the footage are Eiko. They are Rojoseki (Erlin, Changhwa), Keishu (Beidou, Changhwa), and Mato (Madou, Tainan), respectively. The aircraft on this mission included TBM-5C torpedo bombers of VT-4 and F6F-5 fighters of VF-4. Bomb bursts on Mato airfield caused by the 100-lb bombs dropped by the TBM can be seen in the third segment.
