Two days earlier, the Commander of the USN 7th Fleet ordered the task group led by the aircraft carrier USS Block Island (CVE-106) to divert to Kiirun in order to evacuate the allied POWs held by the Japanese.  In the early morning of September 5, the task group dispatched aircraft to conduct reconnaissance of Kiirun and Taihoku areas and also to make a show of force.  Reconnaissance reported Matsuyama operational.  It was then determined to run the risk of landing one aircraft at Matsuyama to establish liaison as quickly as possible.  At 1010I (Time Zone I corresponds to Japan local time), the TBM-3 in both pictures, piloted by Captain Dick Johson, USMC, accompanied by the liaison officer Major Peter Folger, USMCR, landed safely on Matsuyama Airdrome.  This TBM-3, assigned to VMBT-233, thus became the first allied aircraft that landed on Formosa after Japan had surrendered.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/taiwanairpower.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/tbm_2.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u4e0d\u904e\u9019\u5169\u5f35\u7167\u7247\u90fd\u4e0d\u662f\u5728\u9019\u67b6\u98db\u6a5f\u525b\u964d\u843d\u5f8c\u7acb\u523b\u62cd\u651d\u7684\u3002\u5982\u679c\u4ed4\u7d30\u770b\u7b2c\u4e8c\u5f35\u7167\u7247\uff0c\u53ef\u4ee5\u767c\u73fe\u88e1\u9762\u6709\u4e09\u500b\u897f\u65b9\u4eba\uff08\u5c40\u90e8\u653e\u5927\u5716\u5982\u4e0b\uff09\u3002\u4e8b\u5be6\u4e0a\u5728\u7b2c\u4e00\u5f35\u7167\u7247\u88e1\u4e5f\u53ef\u4ee5\u770b\u5230\u4ed6\u5011\u4e09\u500b\u4eba\uff0c\u53ea\u662f\u4e0d\u90a3\u9ebc\u6e05\u695a\uff08\u4e00\u4eba\u7ad9\u5728\u5ea7\u8259\u65c1\uff0c\u4e00\u4eba\u5728\u6c34\u5e73\u5c3e\u7ffc\u65c1\uff0c\u53e6\u4e00\u4eba\u5728\u7167\u7247\u6700\u5de6\u908a\u7684\u908a\u7de3\u80cc\u5c0d\u8457\uff09\u3002<br \/>But these two photos were not taken immediately after the TBM had landed.  A close look at the second photo would reveal THREE Americans (see the enlarged version below).  Since this TBM only carried the crew of two on this mission, the photos must have been taken after more GIs had arrived at Matsuyama.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/taiwanairpower.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/tbm_3.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Folger\u5c11\u6821\u5728\u964d\u843d\u5f8c\u5c31\u8981\u6c42\u65e5\u8ecd\u5e36\u4ed6\u53bb\u63a2\u8996\u6230\u4fd8\uff0c\u7136\u5f8c\u4ed6\u628a\u6230\u4fd8\u6700\u8feb\u5207\u9700\u8981\u7684\u91ab\u85e5\u8207\u7269\u8cc7\u900f\u904e\u4e0a\u7a7a\u4e00\u67b6\u5f85\u547d\u7684F6F\u901a\u77e5\u7279\u9063\u968a\u6e96\u5099\u3002\u7a0d\u5f8c\uff0c\u7531\u5e03\u6d1b\u514b\u5cf6\u865f\u53ca\u53e6\u4e00\u8258\u822a\u8266\u6851\u63d0\u865f\uff08USS Santee, CVE-29\uff09\u6d3e\u51fa\u591a\u67b6\u98db\u6a5f\uff0c\u5229\u7528\u6539\u88dd\u904e\u7684\u526f\u6cb9\u7bb1\u88dd\u8f09\u9019\u4e9b\u7269\u8cc7\uff0c\u904b\u9001\u5230\u677e\u5c71\u98db\u884c\u5834\u3002\u524d\u9762\u7684\u5169\u5f35\u7167\u7247\u61c9\u8a72\u5c31\u662f\u9019\u4e9b\u98db\u6a5f\u62b5\u9054\u5f8c\u62cd\u651d\u7684\u3002<br \/>Major Folger was driven to the POW campas to determine the most urgent needs of the POWs.  This information was flown back to the Flagship by one of the F6F covering Captain Johnson&#8217;s landing.  In short order, planes from USS Block Island and the other carrier, USS Santee (CVE-29), loaded with proper medicines and foods were landing on Matsuyama.<\/p>\n<p>\u4e0b\u5716\u662f\u6851\u63d0\u865f\u4e0a\u7b2c26\u9b5a\u96f7\u4e2d\u968a\uff08VT-26\uff09\u7684\u5169\u67b6TBM-3\uff0c\u5728\u5b8c\u6210\u904b\u88dc\u4f5c\u696d\u5f8c\u6e96\u5099\u8d77\u98db\u96e2\u53bb\u7684\u60c5\u5f62\u3002\u80cc\u666f\u9084\u53ef\u4ee5\u770b\u5230\u53e6\u59164\u67b6\u505c\u653e\u7684TBM\u3002<br \/>The next photo shows two TBM-3 of VT-26 on USS Santee prepared to depart from Matsuyama.
