Col. Doolittle and most of other crewmen bailed out over China.  Most of them reached safety while four were captured by the Japanese and three died due to crash\/parachuting.  On June 29, 1942, Madame Chiang Kai-Shek awarded medals to these Tokyo raiders in Chungking, China.  Photos in this post were all taken on that day.  In the top photo, Madame CKS addresses the crews before presenting the medals.  From left to right are: unknown Chinese, Madame CKS, Brig. Gen. Doolttle (he was promoted by two grades immediately after the raid, bypassing the rank of Colonel), Col. John Hilger, 1st Lt. Richard Cole.<\/p>\n<p>Below, Col. Since the flyers were all wearing their jackets with the medals, this photo was mostly likely taken at a later time that day.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/taiwanairpower.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/doolittle_cks_14.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The medal awarded to Doolittle was Order of <i>Yun Hwei<\/i> (Cloud Flag) \u96f2\u9ebe\u52f3\u7ae0, 3rd Grade.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/taiwanairpower.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/doolittle_cks_15.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The medal that Col.
