On the morning of January 3, 1945, fourteen SB2C-3 dive bombers of VB-80 and six TBM-3 torpedo bombers of VT-80, escorted by twelve F6F-5 fighters of VF-80, took off from the deck of USS Ticonderoga (CV-14). Their predesignated target was Taichu (Taichung) Airdrome, which became Suian Airport after the war. The action report filed by CVG-80 indicated that F4U from USS Langley, F6F from USS Essex, and TBM from USS San Jacinto were also employed in this operation. But other than the above photo taken by Langley aircraft, I could not find official written reports about this missions filed by the associated units from these three carriers. Each SB2C carried two 500-lb bombs and one 250-lb bomb. The TBM were armed with twelve 100-lb bombers each. Even the escorting F6F each carried one 500-lb bomb under the belly. Bad weather prevented sixe SB2C from rendezvousing with the strike group. They rendezvoused with each other and then returned to the aircraft carrier. One F6F was separated on the way to Formosa but went north to Shinchiku (Hsinchu) with fighters from USS Wasp to strafe a train. Two TBM that became separated joined another group to attack Suo (Suao) on the east coast.<\/p>\n

\u9806\u5229\u98db\u62b5\u53f0\u4e2d\u7684\u98db\u6a5f\u5206\u6279\u5c0d\u53f0\u4e2d\u98db\u884c\u5834\u767c\u52d5\u653b\u64ca\uff0cSB2C\u548cF6F\u4e3b\u8981\u5c0d\u6771\u5357\u89d2\u7684\u71df\u820d\u8207\u68da\u5ee0\u8f5f\u70b8\uff0c\u651c\u5e36\u5c0f\u78c5\u6578\u70b8\u5f48\u7684TBM\u5247\u4ee5\u5c0d\u89d2\u7dda\u7684\u65b9\u5411\u5728\u8dd1\u9053\u548c\u5927\u576a\u6295\u5f48\u3002\u4e0b\u5716\u662f\u7576\u5929\u7684\u653b\u64ca\u793a\u610f\u5716\uff1a
The SB2C and F6F that reached Taichu Airdrome dropped their heavier bombs on the buildings and hangars on the east corner of the airdrome. Carrier 100-lb bombs, the TBM bombed the mat and runway diagonally from northeast to southwest. All planes returned safely. <\/p>\n
