{"id":67,"date":"2006-06-24T22:49:11","date_gmt":"2006-06-24T14:49:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/taiwanairpower.org\/blog\/?p=67"},"modified":"2013-06-15T08:40:34","modified_gmt":"2013-06-15T00:40:34","slug":"photos-of-hsinchu-afb-in-1957-1958","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/taiwanairpower.org\/blog\/?p=67","title":{"rendered":"Photos of Hsinchu AFB in 1957-1958"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"General view of the area\" alt=\"General view of the area\" src=\"http:\/\/taiwanairpower.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/06\/34sq_generalviewofarea.jpg\" \/><\/div>\n<p>The above photo is from a declassified USAF\/CIA document titled <em>USAF Organizational Maintenance Handbook: Hsin Chu Air Base, Taiwan 1957-58<\/em>.\u00a0 In fact, it is a photo album with photos\u00a0related to the\u00a0ROCAF 34th Squadron.\u00a0 The above photo,\u00a0with the caption\u00a0&#8220;General view of the area&#8221;,\u00a0was taken in October 1957.\u00a0 A B-17 and two scrapped aircraft are clearly visible.\u00a0 This photo was probably used for construction planning as indicated by the handwritten words.<\/p>\n<p>I tried to locate &#8220;the area&#8221; on Google Maps.\u00a0 I suspect it was located on the northwest corner of Hsinchu AFB.\u00a0 The following image from Google Maps shows how the suspected area currently looks.\u00a0 It has been rotated 215 degrees clockwise in order to have the same orientation as the above image.\u00a0 You may want to take a look on <a href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?f=q&#038;hl=en&#038;ie=UTF8&#038;t=k&#038;om=1&#038;ll=24.830481,120.939474&#038;spn=0.016942,0.028324\" target=\"_blank\">Google Maps<\/a>.\u00a0 Please let me know if my conjecture is wrong.<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Suspecte area\" alt=\"Suspecte area\" width=\"540\" src=\"http:\/\/taiwanairpower.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/06\/34sq_suspectedarea.jpg\" \/><\/div>\n<p>Since all the photos shown here are copied from a photocopy of the original document and of poor\u00a0quality, they have been digitally retouched before being posted here.\u00a0 I will post more photos from this document in the near future.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The following photo was\u00a0taken in December 1957, two months later than the first photo.\u00a0 It can be seen that the &#8220;Paved Hardstand&#8221;, &#8220;New Ground Power Shed&#8221;, and &#8220;New Elect.
