{"id":254,"date":"2008-08-16T10:54:18","date_gmt":"2008-08-16T02:54:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/taiwanairpower.org\/blog\/?p=254"},"modified":"2008-08-16T10:54:47","modified_gmt":"2008-08-16T02:54:47","slug":"50th-anniversary-of-second-taiwan-strait-crisis-part-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/taiwanairpower.org\/blog\/?p=254","title":{"rendered":"50th Anniversary of Second Taiwan Strait Crisis (Part 4)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Communist China&#8217;s protest on September 10, 1958, marks the first time the regime issued a protest against U-2 overflights.  <a href=\"http:\/\/taiwanairpower.org\/blog\/?p=28\" target=_blank>Earlier overflights<\/a> in 1957 did not draw attention from the Chinese, probably because they had never been detected.  The September 10 mission, coded 6019, might have originated from the following intelligence request:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/taiwanairpower.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/1958_4_request.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/br>Note that this document bears the signature of then Chief of Naval Operations, Arleigh Burke, after whom the Aegis-equipped USS DDG-51 destroyer was named.<\/p>\n<p>This time I am not going to post the Mission Coverage Summary, but the OXY instead.  I am not sure what OXY stands for.  But the document looks like a quick, albeit sometimes rough, interpretation of the &#8220;take&#8221;.  Although the following document only says that the information was from a &#8220;completely reliable source&#8221;, the heading &#8220;OXY 6019&#8221; and the information date reveal it was the result from U-2 Mission 6019.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/taiwanairpower.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/1958_4_6019_1.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/taiwanairpower.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/1958_4_6019_2.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/taiwanairpower.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/1958_4_6019_3.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/taiwanairpower.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/1958_4_6019_4.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/taiwanairpower.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/1958_4_6019_5.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>The OXY shows that there might have been some aircraft movement, but no major reinforcement of fighter aircraft.
