{"id":119,"date":"2007-02-03T13:09:09","date_gmt":"2007-02-03T05:09:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/taiwanairpower.org\/blog\/?p=119"},"modified":"2007-02-03T22:19:44","modified_gmt":"2007-02-03T14:19:44","slug":"a-very-rare-breed-ea-6a-intruder","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/taiwanairpower.org\/blog\/?p=119","title":{"rendered":"A Very Rare Breed: EA-6A Intruder"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/taiwanairpower.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/02\/ea6a_1.jpg\" \/><\/div>\n<p>When I was skimming through Vol. 30 of the <em>Illustrated Guide of Weapons and Tactics<\/em> (\u5175\u5668\u6230\u8853\u5716\u89e3) in a bookstore, I noticed a photo of the EA-6A taken when it visited Taiwan in the 1970s.\u00a0 Because the EA-6A is such a rare breed (only 27 were built) and because I have seen only one EA-6A personally up to now, I quickly recorded its bureau number (156984) on my cellphone and hoped it was the one I had seen.<\/p>\n<p>And it turned out to be exactly the same EA-6A that I saw at Hardwood Range in Wisconsin, US, in 1997.\u00a0 At that time, it was parked next to several retired aircraft.\u00a0 I guessed it was going to end up as a simulated target at the range.\u00a0 But obviously its life did not end up that way.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/home.att.net\/~jbaugher\/thirdseries20.html\" target=\"_blank\">Joe Baugher&#8217;s website<\/a> noted that it was sighted at a dump at Sioux City AP, IA in October 2002.\u00a0 Another person, <a href=\"http:\/\/aeroweb.brooklyn.cuny.edu\/specs\/grumman\/ea-6a.htm\" target=\"_blank\">who was looking for information on 156984 in February 2005<\/a>, said it was in a museum waiting for restoration.\u00a0 I guess I am going to email this person to ask about its whereabout later.\u00a0 Stay tuned for any update.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/taiwanairpower.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/02\/ea6a_2.jpg\" \/><\/div>\n<p>The\u00a0&#8220;sawtooth&#8221; at the base of the refuelling probe houses the receiver antenna of the AN\/ALQ-126B multiple-band track breaker.\u00a0 The large blade antenna mounted on the nose gear door is part of the AN\/ALQ-55 VHF communication jammer.\u00a0 Note the built-in boarding steps.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/taiwanairpower.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/02\/ea6a_3.jpg\" \/><\/div>\n<p>Dubbed the &#8220;Football&#8221;, the fin-tip radome houses the AN\/ALQ-86 receiver\/surveillance system.\u00a0 At its rear is the &#8220;beer can&#8221;
