It was primarily for the use of group and squadron commanders and intelligence officers in the planning of operations and briefing of crews.  The chosen targets were marked in red, including: (As far as I know, the numbers do not imply importance or priority.)  <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>1<\/strong> Steam Power Plant\u3000\uff08\u706b\u529b\u767c\u96fb\u6240\uff09\n<li><strong>2<\/strong> Chemical Fertilizer Plant\u3000\uff08\u5316\u5b78\u80a5\u6599\u5de5\u5834\uff09\n<li><strong>3<\/strong> Nippon Aluminum Co.\u3000\uff08\u65e5\u672c\u92c1\u682a\u5f0f\u6703\u793e\uff09\n<li><strong>4<\/strong> Mitsubishi Oil Storage\u3000\uff08\u4e09\u83f1\u6cb9\u69fd\u6240\uff09\n<li><strong>6<\/strong> Industrial Alcohol Plant\u3000\uff08\u9152\u7cbe\u5de5\u5834\uff09\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u4e0d\u904e\u7531\u65bc\u7576\u6642\u7f8e\u8ecd\u5c1a\u672a\u958b\u59cb\u5c0d\u53f0\u7063\u5be6\u65bd\u7a7a\u4e2d\u5075\u7167\uff0c\u9019\u4efd\u5831\u544a\u7684\u60c5\u5831\u4f86\u6e90\u4e3b\u8981\u4f86\u81ea\u7f8e\u570b\u570b\u5167\uff0c\u4e26\u975e\u53c3\u8003\u5075\u7167\u7684\u7d50\u679c\uff0c\u6240\u4ee5\u5167\u5bb9\u4e0d\u76e1\u6b63\u78ba\uff08\u56e0\u6b64\u7f8e\u8ecd\u5728\u5831\u544a\u52a0\u8a3b\u4e86\u4e0b\u5716\u6240\u793a\u7684\u8b66\u8a9e\uff09\u3002\u8209\u4f8b\u4f86\u8aaa\uff0c\u65e5\u672c\u92c1\u682a\u5f0f\u6703\u793e\u4e26\u4e0d\u5728\u4e0a\u5716\u6a19\u793a 3 \u7684\u4f4d\u7f6e\uff0c\u800c\u662f\u5728\u53f3\u4e0b\u89d2\u8a3b\u8a18 Reigaryo Airport &#038; Seaplane Base \u7684\u5730\u65b9\u3002\u4e0d\u904e\u9019\u4e5f\u884d\u4f38\u51fa\u4e00\u500b\u6709\u8da3\u7684\u554f\u984c\uff1a\u88ab\u8a3b\u660e\u70ba Reigaryo Airport &#038; Seaplane Base \u7684\u5340\u57df\u65e9\u671f\u66fe\u662f<a href=\"http:\/\/taiwanairpower.org\/blog\/?p=6354\" target=_blank>\u82d3\u96c5\u5bee\u4e0d\u6642\u7740\u9678\u5834<\/a>\uff0c\u4f46\u662f\u5728\u662d\u548c10\u5e74\uff081935\u5e74\uff09\u5de6\u53f3\u6539\u5efa\u70ba\u65e5\u672c\u92c1\u682a\u5f0f\u6703\u793e\u9ad8\u96c4\u5de5\u5834\u3002\u7f8e\u8ecd\u65e2\u7136\u6c92\u6709\u7576\u5730\u7684\u7a7a\u7167\uff0c\u4ed6\u5011\u662f\u5982\u4f55\u7372\u5f97\u82d3\u96c5\u5bee\u7740\u9678\u5834\u4f4d\u7f6e\u7684\u60c5\u5831\uff1f<br \/>Since Formosa had yet to be covered by aerial reconnaissance at the time, the target map was not 100% correct and the following warning was printed at the beginning of the main text.  For example, Target 3 (Nippon Aluminum Co.) was not located in the area marked as such on the map but actually in the area referred to as &#8220;Reigaryo Airport &#038; Seaplane Base.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=400 alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/taiwanairpower.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/takao_0a.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>\u7f8e\u570b\u9678\u8ecd\u7b2c14\u822a\u7a7a\u968a\u7684\u5075\u5bdf\u6a5f\u5f9e1943\u5e74\u5f8c\u671f\u958b\u59cb\u5c0d\u53f0\u7063\u5be6\u65bd\u7a7a\u4e2d\u5075\u5bdf\uff0c\u56e0\u6b64\u57281944\u5e742\u6708\u7684\u60c5\u5831\u5206\u6790\u5831\u544a\u300aFormosa\u3000Interim Report\u300b\u4e2d\uff0c\u5c31\u7528\u4ee5\u4e0b\u7684\u9ad8\u96c4\u5730\u5340\u5075\u5bdf\u7167\u7247\u53d6\u4ee3\u4e86\u6700\u4e0a\u9762\u90a3\u5f35\u5730\u5716\uff1a<br \/>The 14th Air Force began to photograph Formosa in late 1943. The aerial reconnaissance photos obtained were used to update the intelligence on Formosa.  In &#8220;Formosa Interim Report,&#8221; February 1944, the following Takao area photo replaced the top map:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/taiwanairpower.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/takao.jpg\" target=_blank><img decoding=\"async\" width=550 alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/taiwanairpower.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/takao.jpg\"><\/a><br \/>\u9ede\u64ca\u4e0a\u5716\u53ef\u653e\u5927\u3002Click to enlarge<br \/><small><a href=\"http:\/\/gis.rchss.sinica.edu.tw\/GIArchive\/\" target=_blank>\u4e2d\u592e\u7814\u7a76\u9662\u6d77\u5916\u6b77\u53f2\u5716\u8cc7\u8207\u5178\u85cf (Via Academia Sinica)<\/a><\/small><\/p>\n<p>\u8ddf\u6700\u4e0a\u9762\u7684\u5730\u5716\u6bd4\u8f03\uff0c\u53ef\u4ee5\u767c\u73fe\u4ee5\u4e0b\u5e7e\u9805\u6539\u8b8a\uff1a\u539f\u672c\u7684 1 \uff08\u706b\u529b\u767c\u96fb\u6240\uff09\u4e0d\u898b\u4e86\uff0c\u53ef\u80fd\u7f8e\u8ecd\u5f9e\u7a7a\u7167\u767c\u73fe\u9019\u88e1\u6839\u672c\u4e0d\u662f\u767c\u96fb\u6240\uff08\u5176\u5be6\u662f\u96fb\u529b\u6703\u793e\u7684\u51fa\u5f35\u6240\uff09\uff1b\u5316\u5b78\u80a5\u6599\u5de5\u5834\u96d6\u7136\u4ecd\u6a19\u793a\u51fa\u4f86\uff0c\u4f46\u662f\u539f\u6709\u7684\u76ee\u6a19\u7de8\u865f 2 \u4e0d\u898b\u4e86\uff0c\u540c\u4e00\u4efd\u6587\u4ef6\u7684\u76ee\u6a19\u6e05\u55ae\u88e1\u4e5f\u4e0d\u898b\u9019\u4e00\u9805\uff1b 3 \uff08\u65e5\u672c\u92c1\u682a\u5f0f\u6703\u793e\uff09\u7684\u4f4d\u7f6e\u88ab\u6a19\u5728\u6b63\u78ba\u7684\u4f4d\u7f6e\uff1b\u591a\u51fa\u4f86 177 Power Plant\uff08\u767c\u96fb\u6240\uff09\u3002<br \/>Some updates are noteworthy: Target 1 (Steam Power Plant) was deleted from the photo.  In fact, the location marked in the 1942 map was occupied by an office of the electrical company.  The photo interpreters might have noted the discrepancy between an office and a power plant and decided to delete the target.  In addition, although the Chemical Fertilizer Plant was marked on the photo, it was no longer numbered, meaning it had been deleted from the target list.  Also, the location for Target 3 (Nippon Aluminum Co.) had been corrected.  Finally, a new Target 177 (Power Plant) was added.<\/p>\n<p>\u4e0a\u9762\u9019\u5f35\u7a7a\u7167\u96d6\u7136\u6709\u5404\u9805\u76ee\u6a19\u7684\u4f4d\u7f6e\uff0c\u4f46\u56e0\u89e3\u6790\u5ea6\u4e0d\u9ad8\uff0c\u96e3\u4ee5\u6e05\u695a\u770b\u898b\u5b83\u5011\u7684\u6a23\u8c8c\u3002\u6240\u5e78\u7f8e\u570b\u6d77\u8ecd\u98db\u6a5f\u57281944\u5e7410\u670812\u65e5\u62cd\u4e0b\u4e86\u73cd\u8cb4\u7684\u9ad8\u96c4\u5730\u5340\u7a7a\u7167\uff0c\u6211\u5f9e\u9019\u6279\u7a7a\u7167\u88e1\u627e\u5230\u4e86\u7f8e\u8ecd\u9078\u5b9a\u7684\u5e7e\u500b\u4e3b\u8981\u653b\u64ca\u76ee\u6a19\uff0c\u63a5\u4e0b\u4f86\u5206\u6210\u5e7e\u7bc7\u8ddf\u5927\u5bb6\u5206\u4eab\u3002<br \/>I have found these targets on the 1944 reconnaissance photos taken by the US Navy aircraft.  I will share my findings in the next few posts.  Let&#8217;s start with the Chemical Fertilizer Plant.<\/p>\n<h3>2. \u53f0\u7063\u80a5\u6599\u682a\u5f0f\u6703\u793e\u9ad8\u96c4\u5de5\u5834 Chemical Fertilizer Plant<\/h3>\n<p>\u5118\u7ba1\u7f8e\u8ecd\u5f8c\u4f86\u5df2\u7d93\u628a\u9019\u500b\u76ee\u6a19\u5f9e\u653b\u64ca\u6e05\u55ae\u4e2d\u62ff\u6389\uff0c\u4f46\u56e0\u70ba\u9019\u662f\u500b\u7f8e\u8ecd\u8aa4\u5224\u7684\u4f8b\u5b50\uff0c\u6240\u4ee5\u6211\u4ecd\u7136\u62ff\u51fa\u4f86\u8aaa\u660e\u3002\u4e0b\u5716\u662f\u662d\u548c10\u5e74\uff081935\u5e74\uff09\u5de6\u53f3\u7e6a\u88fd\u7684\u9ad8\u96c4\u5e02\u8857\u5716\u5c40\u90e8\uff0c\u5728\u7f8e\u8ecd\u6240\u8b02 Chemical Fertilizer Plant \u7684\u4f4d\u7f6e\u5c31\u662f\u53f0\u7063\u80a5\u6599\u682a\u5f0f\u6703\u793e\uff1a<br \/>Although Chemical Fertilizer Plant had been deleted from the target list in the 1944 report, it is worth some analysis because this is a clear example of mis-identification by American intelligence analysts.  The center of the next map, dated circa 1935, corresponds to the location for Chemical Fertilizer Plant marked by the American intelligence analysts.  The Kanji characters stand for Taiwan Fertilizer Company.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=550 alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/taiwanairpower.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/takao_2a.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>\u4e0b\u5716\u662f1944\u5e74\u540c\u5730\u5340\u7684\u7f8e\u8ecd\u7a7a\u7167\uff1a<br \/>The following is the 1944 reconnaissance photo of the same area:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=550 alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/taiwanairpower.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/takao_2.jpg\"><br \/>2. \u53f0\u7063\u80a5\u6599\u682a\u5f0f\u6703\u793e\u9ad8\u96c4\u5de5\u5834\uff08\u8aa4\uff09\u3002(Mistaken for) Chemical Fertilizer Plant <br \/><small><a href=\"http:\/\/gis.rchss.sinica.edu.tw\/GIArchive\/\" target=_blank>\u4e2d\u592e\u7814\u7a76\u9662\u6d77\u5916\u6b77\u53f2\u5716\u8cc7\u8207\u5178\u85cf (Via Academia Sinica)<\/a><\/small><\/p>\n<p>\u5982\u679c\u8ddf\u4e0b\u9762\u7684Google\u885b\u661f\u7167\u7247\u6bd4\u8f03\uff0c\u5c31\u53ef\u4ee5\u767c\u73fe\u5169\u5f35\u7167\u7247\u88e1\u7684\u4e3b\u5efa\u7269\u662f\u4e00\u6a23\u7684\uff0c\u53ea\u662f\u73fe\u5728\u7a31\u70ba\u9ad8\u96c4\u5e02\u7acb\u6b77\u53f2\u535a\u7269\u9928\u3002\u4e0d\u904e\u5f88\u591a\u4eba\u90fd\u77e5\u9053\u9019\u5ea7\u535a\u7269\u9928\u7684\u524d\u8eab\u662f\u9ad8\u96c4\u5e02\u5f79\u6240\uff0c\u800c\u9ad8\u96c4\u5e02\u5f79\u6240\u662f\u65bc\u662d\u548c14\u5e74\uff081939\u5e74\uff09\u9077\u5230\u65b0\u5efa\u7684\u69ae\u753a\u73fe\u5740\uff0c\u986f\u7136\u7576\u6642\u7f8e\u8ecd\u4e26\u6c92\u6709\u66f4\u65b0\u5230\u9019\u9805\u60c5\u5831\uff0c\u4ee5\u81f4\u7e7c\u7e8c\u7a31\u4e4b\u70ba\u5316\u5b78\u80a5\u6599\u5de5\u5834\u3002\u4f46\u7f8e\u8ecd\u6703\u4e0d\u6703\u56e0\u70ba\u767c\u73fe\u7a7a\u7167\u88e1\u7684\u5efa\u7bc9\u4e0d\u50cf\u80a5\u6599\u5de5\u5834\uff0c\u537b\u53c8\u4e0d\u77e5\u9053\u5b83\u7684\u78ba\u5be6\u7528\u9014\uff0c\u6240\u4ee5\u628a\u5b83\u5f9e\u76ee\u6a19\u6e05\u55ae\u4e2d\u5254\u9664\u5462\uff1f<br \/>If you compare the 1944 photo with the following Google satellite image, you will see that the main building is the same, which is now Kaohsiung Historical Museum.  Some of you may be aware that the museum was converted from the old Takao City Hall, which was inaugurated in 1939.  So the building in the 1944 photo was not a fertilizer plant at all. Obviously the American intelligence analysts had not been updated with this information and thus kept identifying it as a fertilizer plant.
