林田飛行場平面圖 (Hyashida Airdrome on Google Earth)

【台灣省警備總司令部軍事接收總報告】的「台灣日陸海軍機場一覽表」在花蓮地區標示了一個叫「上大和」的日據時代機場。說來慚愧，在台灣長大到現在，這是我頭一次聽到這個地名。由於這不是一般鄉鎮的行政區名稱，所以只好請Google幫我找出上大和的確實位置，結果發現花蓮縣不只有上大和飛行場，還有一座林田飛行場也是我之前不知道的。
A map by the former Taiwan Provincial Garrison Command (台灣省警備總司令部) shows that there used to be three airfields in Hualien area built by the Japanese military before the end of WWII. But a Google search revealed that, much to my surprise, there had been four airfields!

不過探索林田飛行場的這個部落格僅提供大略的位置，要知道它的廬山真面目只有靠美軍在二戰的空照圖。幸好皇天不負苦心人，我很快就找到林田所在的花蓮縣鳳林鄉空照圖：
The following is the aerial reconnaissance photo taken by the US military of the current Fenglin Township in Hualien County. A runway is barely visible in the center. It was marked as Hyashida Airdrome on the photo.

要不是有前面提到的這個部落格指引，光從這張黑白照片還真的看不出來哪裡有飛行場。將放大後的照片套疊到Google Earth上，以下就是林田（美軍是用日文發音Hyashida來稱呼）飛行場的平面圖（下載kmz檔按此）。因為Google Earth是用縫圖的方式把衛星照片拼湊在一起，所以有些地方會有地貌變形的接縫，不巧正好有一條接縫穿過林田飛行場的舊跑道位置，所以各位會發現我畫的跑道下半段跟Google衛星照片上的地貌對不準。

跟之前看過的幾個飛行場比起來，林田算是相當簡單的一個，基本它就是一條跑道，沒有滑行道或是日軍機場常看到的V字型露天機堡，說不定它的定位就跟現在的戰備跑道一樣，也有可能是作為誘餌的假機場（美軍所謂的dummy airfield）。林田的跑道也比較短，只有1500公尺左右。在跑道的兩端北側各有一塊長條形的區域（在上圖標示A和B的地方），各有四個圓拱形的建築，看來像是掩體設施，也許就是停放飛機和維修的地方.
Hyashida was a relatively small airfield, with a 1500-m runway but no taxiways nor revetments. It probably functioned as an auxiliary airfield or even a decoy. Two servicing aprons were located at both ends of the runway, each with four hangars or shop buildings (marked A and B in the above Google image).

上面那個部落格說現場還保留了幾個當時用來壓平跑道的水泥滾輪（C的位置），沒想到Google Earth的Street View也看得到（我提供的kmz檔裡有標示位置）。
Several rollers, which were used to compress the dirt runway, can still be found at a small temple for the God of Land nearby (marked as C in the Google image).

我在標定跑道位置時，參考了空照圖上的一個新月形池塘。
A crescent-shaped pond could be seen on the reconnaissance photo.

沒想到六十幾年後，這座池塘依然存在（D的位置），而且Google Earth也拍了下來。
The pond remains, even after sixty years (marked as D in the Google image). It can be seen on Google Earth’s Street View.
