Source： NARA via Fold3.com 美國陸軍的B-29重型轟炸機在1944年10月轟炸過台灣南部後，隔了兩個月才又對台灣進行轟炸。1945年1月9日，39架從中華民國四川起飛的美軍B-29對台灣的基隆投下了293噸的炸彈（另有6架B-29改炸中國沿岸）。之後，美國陸軍第20轟炸司令部決定於1月14日再度轟炸台灣，首要目標是新竹飛行場，另以嘉義與屏東飛行場作為預備目標。1月14日當天，任務指揮官根據先遣的天氣觀測機回報決定以嘉義為主要目標，上面的照片即是當天遭54架B-29轟炸前的嘉義飛行場，可見當地能見度頗佳，照片下半部的棚場前面還可看到十多架飛機。Two months passed after the B-29 of US Army XX Bomber Command hit southern Formosa in October, 1944, the B-29 struck again.
