在台北刑務所被日軍處決的美軍戰俘 American POWs Executed by Japanese Army in Taihoku Prison (Part 5)

在14名被日軍處決的美軍俘虜之中，”J’. “C”. Buchanan、Delbert H. Carter、Donald K. Hathaway、John Roberson Parker、Wayne W. Wilson等五人，都是美國海軍第117巡邏中隊PB4Y-1上的機員，他們是在1945年1月28日的一次台灣與中國沿海任務中失蹤。當時第117巡邏中隊駐防在菲律賓雷伊泰島上的獨魯萬機場（Tacloban Airstrip），主要任務是對雷伊泰島半徑1000英哩內的菲律賓、台灣、中國、印度支那地區進行巡邏。下圖中的文件是第117巡邏中隊作戰日誌對這架PB4Y作戰失蹤的敘述。
Among the fourteen executed POWs, “J’. “C”. Buchanan, Delbert H. Carter, Donald K. Hathaway, John Roberson Parker, and Wayne W. Wilson were the crew on PB4Y-1 BuNo. 38738 of VPB-117. In January 1945, VPB-117 was based at Tacloban Airstrip on Leyte, P.I. Its mission at that time, as per the War Diary, was to “cover the Philippine Area, coastlines of Formosa, Indo-China and China, within a radius of one thousand miles of Leyte Island. 在台北刑務所被日軍處決的美軍戰俘 American POWs Executed by Japanese Army in Taihoku Prison (Part 2)

在14名被日軍處決的美軍俘虜中，Ralph R. Hartley中尉是唯一一位美國陸軍航空隊的戰鬥機飛行員。他在1945年2月27日駕駛P-47D（美軍序號42-29068）從菲律賓呂宋島上的曼加爾丹機場（Mangaldan Strip）起飛，到台灣上空執行Fighter Sweep任務。根據當天一同執行任務的Darrel J. Laird上尉在事後所做的陳述，他們在Hogen（可能是指豐原？）附近發現日軍飛機並進行纏鬥，但是Hartley中尉在過程中失去蹤影，美軍友機幾次嘗試聯繫都無效後返航（詳細陳述請見以下文件）。
Among the 14 slain American airmen, Ralph R. Hartley was the sole US Army Air Corps (USAAC) fighter pilot. On February 27, 1945, Hartley took off in P-47D 42-29068 from Luzon’s Mangaldan Strip for a fighter sweep mission over Formosa. According to the statement made by his element leader Captain Darrel J. Laird (the full document is shown below), Hartley disappeared after engaging Japanese aircraft near Hogen in central Formosa.
